С dedicates animal science education center

Dordt recently dedicated the John J. and Henry J. Spronk Animal Science Education Center, a new facility that will enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students preparing to serve in agriculture and animal science fields.

С recently dedicated the John J. and Henry J. Spronk Animal Science Education Center, a state-of-the-art, multi-species facility designed to enhance hands-on learning and research opportunities for Dordt students in agriculture.

The 167-by-62-foot building features a 40-by-50-foot enclosed area, which includes an entry space, a feed preparation area, restrooms, and mechanical and storage spaces. The west and east ends of the barn each have 65-by-50-foot open areas designated for animals with flexible penning options. The facility, located at the Agriculture Stewardship Center, is part of Dordt’s ongoing efforts to provide industry-relevant experiences for students preparing to serve in agriculture and animal science fields.

In recognition of their grandfather, John J. Spronk, and father, Henry J. Spronk—who emigrated and established their family farm in Minnesota—Spronk Brothers III provided support for the building. Celebrating their deep ancestral roots in agriculture and the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Spronk family humbly provides the funding for this facility, supporting the education of future agriculturalists and Kingdom seekers.

“We are grateful for the Spronk family’s vision and investment in Dordt students,” says Dr. Holly De Vries, assistant professor of agriculture at Dordt. “The opening of this building means we have a space of our own—one that invites us to dream bigger about what hands-on learning might look like for our students, so that they may live out their calling as stewards of God’s creation.”

A dedication ceremony was held on Friday, May 2, bringing together students, faculty, alumni, and community members to celebrate the building’s completion and to thank those who made it possible.
