The community is invited to the flute recital of С»ÆÊé senior Julia Holleman. The free recital will be held on Friday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. A public reception will follow.

The recital will feature a variety of instruments, such as harpsicord and cello on Bach’s Sonata IV in C Major and saxophone with flute performing a recently composed Hymn Suite collection. Another highlight of the recital is an alto flute performance of Atlantis by Gary Schocker, which employs the rich overtones of the alto flute to depict swirling water. Holleman will also be performing the first movement of the well-known Sonata by Francis Poulenc.

Holleman will be accompanied by С»ÆÊé junior Anders Kolbrek of Maple Grove, Minnesota. Other collaborators include С»ÆÊé juniors Aaron Galloway of Pella, Iowa on cello and Annika Rynders of Mount Pleasant, Iowa on saxophone.

Holleman, of Beecher, Illinois, is majoring in K-12 Choral/Instrumental Music Education. She has studied flute with Stephanie Kocher since 2019, and she also studies voice with Debora Vogel. She is a member of the С»ÆÊé Concert Choir, plays flute for the С»ÆÊé Wind Symphony, serves as choir director for First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, and has accompanied for Dordt’s vocal studio since 2020.
